She lays beneath the poplar tree, looking up at the silver and green leaves as they turn over to show their bellies to the rain.
Stray raindrops strained through the upper boughs of the tree trace paths down her waxy cheeks, give the impression she is weeping.
She has been dead for two days.
Still, she remembers things.
